Have you ever wished you had a bathroom vanity top that had the thicker and heavier look of stone (granite or quartz) but retained that sought after warm comforting feel and hygienic properties that you get with standard Corian®, and other brands of solid surface material? Your wish has been granted, read on.
Corian® vanity tops can be constructed with an extra layer of 1/2″-thick Corian® material sandwiched between the sink and the top. Because Corian® is seamless when glued together with the matching adhesive, this makes the top appear to be as thick as the front and side edges.
Take a look at Image A below and note the portion of the top above the sink is as thick as the front edge of the vanity top. Compare that to Image B which has a single thickness of Corian® above the sink. Both of these vanity tops are made of Corian®.
You may have also noticed that the top is slightly hanging over the sink in Image A. This is the typical appearance and a notable characteristic of undermount sinks in the thicker stone vanity tops. This undermount overhang look applied to a 1″-thick-build-up solid surface vanity top can give the perception of the stone alternatives. The undermount sink can be your choice of porcelain, solid surface, quartz or stainless.
Image C shows an integrated undermount solid surface sink with the additional 1″ thick countertop build-up. Note that in this setup, the vanity top is not hanging over the sink edge but instead seamlessly connects to the vanity top for the integrated look. This configuration keeps the thick look and also eliminates any place for dirt or bacteria to collect.
So if you want the best of both worlds in your bathroom countertop, the heavier look of stone, and the warm-to-the-touch feel and sanitary properties of Corian®, then the extra build-up option may be an option for you. You can customize and purchase your own vanity top at SolidSurface.com, and we provide the 1″ build-up as one of our many customizable options
Hi: We’re looking at Image “C” as this is exactly what we have in our 2 baths & kitchen. Can you advise if the kitchen sink can be painted over as food stains are impossible to remove. ????
Thanks, Gary & Lil …
